Big believer in this! Obvious but unsaid in the piece is that true rest time (ie default mode network activation) is ironically where much creative problem solving happens.

I generally disappear on sundays and I don’t think I’d get the things I want done done if I didn’t.

Everyone needs some ME time without any disturbances doesn’t have to be a day just hours to do what you want and by yourself. It refreshes you no end.

i resonate with this deeply, something which really helped me...

i have added a kale phone; a phone on which i can't do anything but write and read,

fitted it with a matte screen protector, 24/7 night mode enabled (yes you can do that on your iphone) and low light modus by doing interesting stuff in my accessibility settings

leave your other phone in a place where you can't easily reach it, take the kale phone on walks, or to bed, and then whenever you have the urge to grab your phone, what you really grab is a fancy kindle, on which you can read, listen to music or write with

more you time, everyday

interesting ... there is such a paradox of fixing a problem with more of the problem but i am curious about it. you have a sim card for the kale phone too?

for mine i do have a sim card with it, so if you’re out and about and you need to navigate somewhere or be able to do emergency calls, to your loved ones etc

Was about to comment on your slightly illegible handwriting but then i saw ur notes haha.

I think part of the reason people dont do any retreats is because in our minds it means something big or extremely time consuming. U made a great point that it is more so about making time for yourself to disconnect and it doesn’t need to be long like days or hours and hours. It could be just setting time aside for 30mins to 45 mins for the little retreat and then go from there.

yeah it's a very strange norm we've set that we can only rest if we're meditating in the mountains or something. i suppose we do the same with new years resolutions, instead of changing today we put it in some harder to reach place or time

haha so true about the new year's resolution bit! I think one is less likely to complete a new year's resolution vs a decision that is made any other time of the year
